For the week ending June 27, 2009 mortgage rates are still historically low.  This past week, even though rates had gone up some, they are still low.  The average rate for a 30 year fixed mortgage was 5.42 percent.  The average rate on a 15 year mortgage fell to 4.87 percent., down from 4.89 percent.  These rates do not include add on fees known as points, and with some lending institutions the lowest rates are available by paying these "points."
